Spice was founded in 2002 by Polly Palmer and Jane Snelling, both experienced D&T teachers and formerly Education Managers at the Design Museum. Spice's acclaimed workshops adapt the practices of cutting-edge designers and manufacturers such as Wolff Olins (designers of the Olympic logo), Paul Smith, IDEO and James Dyson, for school pupils, ITE students and teachers.

Spice specialises in the teaching of relevant and creative design skills, in line with the new National Curriculum guidelines for D&T.

Spice workshops emphasise spontaneous, creative, experimental design processes supported by strategies for assessment, satisfaction of exam criteria, classroom management and differentiation.
